Few days back, we shared Salman Khan's Message with you in which he was asking the youth to participate in the Marathon race titled as Run for The Nation. Here is some exclusive update on this event provided by Times Of India.
Salman Khan, who will soon be joining the Indo-Tibetan Border Police troops for a half-marathon in Delhi, is making all efforts to ensure this event is a grand success.
Titled Run For The Nation, the 21km marathon will take place on October 7, starting from Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium, and as many as 15,000 people, including 5,000 children, are expected to participate.
Sharing the actor's itinerary, Deepak Pandey, public relations office, ITBP, says, "Salman will be coming to Delhi on October 6, a night before the marathon. He's flying down in a private charter plane from Mumbai. He'll travel by road from Satara, a place where he is scheduled to shoot at that time, wh-ich is about 300kms away from Mumbai, and reach Mumbai, from where he'll fly to Delhi. After the marathon, he will again take his flight from Delhi to Mumbai and again travel by road back to Satara. So in all, he will be travelling by road an extra 600kms, just to come and participate in the run, and that too, free of cost. He is doing all this on his own, because he wants to do this for the country."
While Pandey admits that there were a few more names from Bollywood who were approached for the same, it was Khan who didn't put in any clauses for his appearance. "We had approached few other celebrities to become our brand ambassador. While we did get a positive response from all, there were certain limitations. Some had a time constraint, while some had an issue with running with the contestants. Salman was the only one who readily agreed, without any questions. In fact, he cancelled his shoots for that day and said that he will be available for as long as we want him," shares Pandey, adding that ITBP had approached Salman in August with a proposal to become their brand ambassador on the occasion of ITBP's 50th anniversary.
The superstar even shot for a small video, appealing to the youth of the nation to come and join him in the run for the nation. "Salman flew down from Mumbai to shoot his appeal for the marathon, on his own expenses and even interacted with the ITBP officers and jawans. At the event, apart from participating in the run, Salman will also motivate the youth to join the security forces," Pandey says.
